Here’s a list of the most buzzed-about new, classic and can’t-miss series, movies and documentaries from some of the premium streaming services out there which will be out in the new month of June.
From the return of flying dragons and the streaming premiere of Richard Linklater’s buzzy caper to the true life story of Celine Dion, there’s more than enough here to keep you entertained all month.
“House of the Dragon” (June 16)
Season 2 of the backstage, backstabbing drama about who gets to rule in Westeros returns, as the civil war called “The Dance of the Dragons” escalates between the houses. The story is a prequel to the events of “Game of Thrones,” which focuses on the two halves of the Targaryen dynasty, with Rhaenyra Targaryen and Alicent Hightower — former BFFs — taking opposite sides. “House” airs on HBO/MAX on Sundays from June 16 to 24.
“Hit Man” (June 7)
Following a run in theaters in late May, Richard Linklater’s latest film drops on Netflix — and it looks to be a wholly original caper from a filmmaker who forges his own path.
Starring Glen Powell and Adria Arjona, the film is about an undercover police officer who poses as an assassin to arrest the people who want to hire him (for hits, not arrests) — until he runs into a woman who really needs his help. It’s based on a Texas Monthly article (“Hit Man“) from 2001.
“The Acolyte” (June 4)
The newest entry in the small-screen “Star Wars” universe takes place at the end of the High Republic era, approximately 100 years before the main “Star Wars” films take place, and focuses on a Jedi master who investigates crimes.
Stars include Amandla Stenberg, Jodie Turner-Smith and Carrie-Anne Moss. The first two of an expected eight episodes drop June 4.
“Diane von Furstenberg: Woman in Charge” (June 25)
A documentary about Diane von Furstenberg looks at the fascinating and feminist life of the cultural fashion icon. The daughter of a Holocaust survivor, she has always pushed past sexist attitudes to transform the way women dress, balancing her career with raising children and facing cancer.
“I Am: Celine Dion” (June 25)
This documentary looks back at the Canadian singing icon’s life, including her big-voiced success stories with songs like “My Heart Will Go On,” the tragic loss of her husband and her fight with stiff-person syndrome.
“Presumed Innocent” (June 12)
Yes, the 1990 film starring Harrison Ford, based on Scott Turow’s best-selling novel by the same name, is pretty much perfection. But we expect the team of David E. Kelley (writer), J.J. Abrams (executive producer) and Jake Gyllenhaal (star) will do this suspenseful mystery proud.
The Bear – June 27
The highly anticipated third season of The Bear will premiere on June 27, 2024 with the original award-winning cast returning.
The Bear’s season 3 trailer appears to be going back to the roots of the masterfully and chaotic first season while still relishing the season 2 accomplishment of revamping The Bear into a fine dining restaurant.
The Boys – June 13
The Boys Season 4 is headed for darker times according to the teaser trailer recently released ahead of launch.
According to Prime Video, the world is on the brink in Season 4. Victoria Neuman is closer than ever to the Oval Office and under the muscly thumb of Homelander, who is consolidating his power. Butcher, with only months to live, has lost Becca’s son and his job as The Boys’ leader. The rest of the team are fed up with his lies. With the stakes higher than ever, they have to find a way to work together and save the world before it’s too late.
